Database

The core of our RIS system is a centralized relational database that includes the following types of records:

The exam records are "universal", meaning that the record structure will accommodate all types of diagnostic imaging exams, including general radiography, CT scan, ultrasound, MRI, nuclear medicine and mammography.

Patient

A comprehensive and customizable patient dossier is included that allows you to store demographic, billing, and essential background medical information on each of your patients.

Allergies and other medical alerts can be entered, and our RIS can remind you of these alerts when scheduling a patient or when the patient arrives for his or her appointment.

You can search for and select patients in the scrollable Patient Grid. The layout of the grid, the order in which the patients are shown, and the search criteria are all user-definable.

If your institution maintains a separate Central Patient Index (CPI) as part of your Hospital Information System, Our system can communicate with the CPI via HL7 or SQL so that patient records are automatically created and kept up to date.

Exam

There are two versions of the exam screen: the quick-entry pre-registration screen, which includes only those data fields that are required in order to request a new exam, and the full exam screen, which includes all of the details concerning an exam and can be completed upon patient arrival.

Scheduling

PCCG RIS includes a powerful appointment scheduler that lets you view and book multiple resources at the same time. A sophisticated search engine allows you to quickly find free timeslots that meet a variety of criteria.

Billing

Billing information is automatically generated based on exams performed and/or supplies used, and can be submitted electronically or exported to an external billing system. The integrated billing saves time, ensures accuracy, and eliminates costly omissions.

Dictation, Voice Recognition and Transcription

Our product includes a built-in digital dictation system. The system allows a radiologist to easily create voice recordings for any study. This can even be done locally or remotely via the Web. We work the Speech Mic and other 3rd party hardware that allows programming of the buttons for keyboard commands. A mouse, mic, and speakers can also be used in a pinch without any special hardware requirements.

As soon as a radiologist attaches a recording to an exam, the voice file can be listened to by the referring physician, so that they can hear it and act on the preliminary findings without delay. This functionality can be turned on or off, in accordance with the preference of each referring physician and radiologist.

Included is a simple to use but powerful transcription, proofreading feature which includes digital signature capability to transcribed texts. Transcriptionists can use usb PC foot-pedals to control the playback of voice recordings while typing the reports.

As an alternative to digital dictation, voice recognition software, such as IBM's ViaVoice Enterprise and Dragon's Naturally-Speaking Medical, dynamically converts the radiologist's speech to text. This eliminates the need for transcription, and provides significant cost savings and a reduction in the turnaround time for the availability of written reports. Radiologists no longer must read and edit their reports after they have been typed. They can review their reports as they dictate them, and then provide a digital signature for their release. As accuracy improves with each new generation of VR software, this technology is becoming increasingly attractive to radiologists.

We also offer our VR-VCC product "RADSpeak" a VR Voice Command Control or (VCC) structured Macro/ template based voice controlled reporting which overlays the dragon engine as a software add on to Deagon's standard VR product. This feature will turbo charge your VR reads to new speeds with more accuracy and less time spent dictating.

Label Printing and Film Tracking

Print custom labels for film envelopes, including bar codes representing the Patient Number and Exam Number. We utilize the Dymo Label printers.

Bar codes can be used to identify patients, staff, exams, supplies and locations, saving time and reducing the risk of error. Within the Film Tracking Module, each time a film envelope arrives or leaves, the filing clerk can simply scan the bar code on the envelope, and then scan the appropriate bar code for the new location from a prepared sheet. The movement of the envelope is thereby automatically registered into the database, so that the "current location" of every film is up to date and visible on-screen to any authorized user.

Faxing and E-Mailing of Reports

As soon as they are available, preliminary and final reports can be automatically faxed or e-mailed to the physicians who ordered the exams, or sent to a specified printer within your institution. Voice recordings provided by the radiologists can also be automatically and immediately available online to the referring physicians. Thus an ER doctor can listen to the preliminary diagnostic report the minute it has been dictated by the radiologist.

The system can also be configured to automatically print a copy of every final report at a specified destination, such as the Medical Records department.

Statistical Reports

The RIS includes a wide variety of predefined reports, which can be viewed on screen, printed or exported to a file. A powerful Custom Report Engine facilitates list, cross-tabulation, and distribution reporting based on any of the data that has been entered into the system.

In addition, all of the data files used within PCCG's RIS can be easily exported for use with any standard spreadsheet, word-processing, presentation, or statistics package.

Customizable Look-Up Tables

Authorized users can easily maintain the various look-up tables and selection lists that are used throughout the system. These include lists of exam types, diagnosis, symptoms, supplies and so on. Since the users have control of these tables, the software has the flexibility to grow and adapt to future changes without the costly intervention of programmers. For example, if your institution acquires a new type of imaging device, it can simply be added to the list of exam modalities, and you can then schedule and bill for that modality.
