iCad formerly Howtek Film Digitizers

The iCAD (formally Howtek) family of medical imaging products converts films to digital images and gather every type of digital image to conveniently put them in your hands. The MultiRAD Film Digitizers convert X-rays and radiographs into digital images.

The images can be used for fast clinical determinations for precise detailed diagnostic evaluations in PACs, Teleradiology, Centralized Reading and many more applications.

MultiRAD Solutions

The MultiRAD Family consists of two film digitizers: the 460 and 860.

The 460 digitizes films up to 4K resolution (twice the diagnostic quality required by the FDA for primary reading). The 860 digitizes films up to 8K resolution (four times the diagnostic quality required by the FDA for primary reading).

MultiRAD 860 3.85 OD HiResolve Film Digitizer

The objective of the 860 is to capture full film fidelity.

At 3.85 OD and up to 8K resolution, it can capture the full gray range and up to 11.5 lp/mm resolution. The variable resolution means that the 860 can do it all - from fast quick wet reads at low resolution to full diagnostic detailed images at high resolution.

The 860 is being used today in Orthopedic Clinics, Remote Sites, and as the image capture stations for Computer Aided Detection (CAD).

The ability to handle film sizes from very small 5x5: (12.7 x 12.7 cm) to 14x40" (35 ½ x 101 2/3 cm) at full resolution makes the 860 a favorite of orthopedic facilities. The extreme range on resolution brings true images at higher magnification on PACs viewing stations, making interpretation of fine line fractures, and skews possible.

For Remote Sites where no physician is present, the 860 represents that ability to communicate the full fidelity image to physicians that might be located hundreds of miles away. When a courier isn't available, the 860 is the sole link and it meets the challenge.

Computer Aided Detection is becoming more prevalent in the fight against cancer. For the software to give consistent readings the digitized image must be the same from scan to scan, day to day, month to month. The 860 is the rugged workhorse.

MultiRAD 460 3.85OD Diagnostic Film Digitizer

The 460 provides excellent images in typical applications.

At 3.85OD and up to 4K resolution, it can capture the full gray range and up to 5.75 lp/mm of information from the film. The 460 is key in bringing chest procedures, fractures, and GI series into either the centralized or remote reading world.

The 460 is being used today in Emergency Rooms, Film Libraries and Clinics.

The 460 is ideal in Emergency applications with its fast scan time and variable resolution. It can send a preview image quickly and then follow-up with more detailed images as the case progresses. Its repeatable image quality makes progress comparison reads possible as in chronic heart emergencies. The 460 is used in the film library to distribute images into a network. The integrity of the film library is not compromised and the images are pre-fetched and distributed to the physician automatically. Clinics really appreciate the 460. The image integrity enables them to provide coverage for their typical caseload without the need for a radiologist on site. Radiologists can be centrally located for greater efficiency - a win for the radiology practice and a win for the clinic.
